Our Certificate IV in Building and Construction has been designed to meet the needs of builders and managers or those seeking to obtain the technical qualifications to apply for a Builder Low Rise Licence through the QBCC.

This program covers building construction theory and practices related to low rise buildings, providing the knowledge and managerial skills required to manage a successful residential building business.

Eligibility

For face-to-face delivery, prior to enrolment, candidates should be able to demonstrate a minimum of 12 months post carpentry and/or bricklaying trade (24 months for all other trades) and demonstrate a minimum level of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills.

For RPL, prior to enrolment, candidates must be:

  • For carpenters and bricklayers: at least two years post trade experience on-site supervising all trades with a licensed builder, in domestic construction, and commercial construction to one storey.
  • For all other trades: at least four years post trade experience on-site supervising all trades with a licensed builder, in domestic construction, and commercial construction to one storey.

Enrolment
To enrol, candidates will need to meet the eligibility criteria, participate in a phone interview with Cirrus Construction and undertake a LLN assessment.

Course outline

Our Cert IV program is divided into eight clusters of learning that are based on the issues we know are important in the building and construction sector today. These clusters include managing OH&S, building principals and codes, project site surveys, resource management, project management, planning building and construction work, contract management and managing small business finances.
